In A Nutshell

Bridge of Books’ mission is to provide an ongoing source of books to underprivileged and at-risk children throughout New Jersey in order to support literacy skills and to encourage a love of reading.

Our goal is to get as many books as possible into the hands of New Jersey’s at-risk and underserved children.  We generally acquire books through book drives and individual donations.  Occasionally, we receive overstock books from a publisher or corporate donor.   Depending upon available funds, we also purchase books to supplement the books we receive through donations.  We purchase books based on specific requests, for example,  a teacher may want to focus on a particular novel with her class or an agency may need books that appeal to teenage boys.  We also purchase Spanish and bi-lingual books because we recognize the unique challenges facing children for whom English is a second language.

We receive book donations and store books at Red Bank Self Storage in Red Bank, New Jersey.  We screen all donated books and sort the books according to age to fulfill book requests.  We distribute books through various agencies, community events, schools and other venues.  To learn more about where our books go, click here.
