Making a Difference in New Jersey

"In a school where 25 percent of our students have fewer than ten books in their homes, 48 percent of children are not read to on a weekly basis, and safe outdoor play is unavailable to 34 percent of families, books are a valuable gift….Our students were thrilled by the opportunity to choose books to take home, and our teachers were grateful for the chance to provide more titles for their students at school. A second-grade child told us that "these books are the first ones I've ever had to keep forever," and a father exclaimed that he "couldn't wait to get home and read with the kids."
Sheila A. Buck, Vice Principal, Port Monmouth Road School, Keansburg, New Jersey

"Due to the nature of our children's emotional disabilities, it is imperative they be given the opportunity to utilize literature as a means of recreation as well as a means to acquire information. Current budget restrictions have had a major impact on our ability to provide age appropriate materials. How wonderful that an organization such as yours is available to fill this gap."
Susan Mazur, Supervisor of Education, Arthur Brisbane Child Treatment Center, Farmingdale, New Jersey

"It has been wonderful having a book for everyone - the sets of twelve (books) have made our reading classes so much easier and more enjoyable!"
Carolyn Brennessel, English Library, Monmouth County Youth Detention Facility, Freehold, New Jersey

"Thank you so much for introducing the Community YMCA Family Services to Bridge of Books. We are pleased to offer our families high quality children's books, and the children we serve are more than delighted when they learn they can keep the book. What a wonderful way to enrich a child's life!"
Andre Benoist, LSW, Young People's Program, YMCA, Matawan, New Jersey

"As the Director of the Great Start Program, I feel extremely fortunate to have been able to partner with Abby Daly and the Bridge of Books. She provides a service that is not available elsewhere and supports a needy population with no political voice or power, If the Bridge of Books program were not able to provide us with books for the parents and children, I doubt the Great Start program could continue."
Elizabeth H. Keshish, Ed.D.

"Thank you for all the interesting books. I hope you can donut [sic.] more books and thanks because now you guys made reading more fun and enjoyable. And we will take care of all the new books. We appreciate for all the books."
